West Coast Paintings
Hiking and Kayaking on and around Pender Island is a powerful inspiration to my work. Pender Island is one of the southern Gulf Islands cradled between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia.
In summer, I watched the Orcas swim and hunt salmon right by the shoreline. All year is full with sightings of eagles, seals, otters, ravens and copious ocean life. It is the strange and unusual ocean life that is the inspiration for my latest work "Energy Series". I just began the Energy series in late August, so there are more on the way.
I find the palette on Pender Island and the West Coast in general is full of purples and oranges and oftened shadowed by the trees. This is quite different from the "white light" of the Great Lakes.
Each day is a joy to me!
